Letting Go of Self Reliance and Trusting God

by: Megan Fate Marshman

Please Read the Bible Scripture Readings and Review the Discussion Questions Before Class Each Week

Week 6:   Submit to Him in MONEY and TRIALS

Scripture Readings:
-  Proverbs 3:5-6
-  Matthew 6:19-25
-  Psalm 24:1
- James 1:2-4
- 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

Now, spend some time with the following questions. Don't rush to get through each one.  Use these questions in the way that best serves your group. Instead of going in order, you can choose to discuss the questions that are most relevant and interesting to you.

1.  What stood out to you from the video - any statement or Scripture that you made sure to write down in your notes?

2.    Why does Jesus talk about money? What is He trying to reveal to us?

3.    Read Matthew 6:19-27 together. Think about a recent experience of worry - how do Jesus' words speak to you in that worry specifically?

4.    Megan taught about how difficult it was to surrender her worry about money to God, because she felt like the money was something she had earned. Do you relate to her story? Is there anything else that you feel is yours instead of His? What are some practical ways that we can move from "ownership" to “stewardship”?

5.   How can we look at our worry as an opportunity for growth?

6.   Read James 1:2-4 together. Does the teaching you heard today shift your perspective on these verses? If so, how?

7.   What potential is there in our trials?

8.   Think of a person you know who you would describe as "mature." Two questions:
1 - Do you know of any significant trials they have been through?
2 - Do they express joy? How?
